Go-ahead given for widening the AP-7 motorway in Tarragona

March 7th, 2007 acesa opens the tender process for the construction of the third lane, following approval of the final plans by Spain’s Ministry for Public Works

acesa will this month commence the tender process for the project for construction of the third lane of the AP-7 in Tarragona (Mediterranean-Vila-seca/Salou section), after approval for the final plans came on 27 February from the Ministry for Public Works’ Highways Directorate-General. Once the tender process and the awarding of the construction works is complete, work will commence on the third lane of the AP-7 in Tarragona, between kilometre points 210.4 and 256.2.

The commencement of this tender process means the start-up of one of the projects included in the AP-7 motorway’s widening plan, approved in 2006 thanks to the agreement between the Ministry for Public Works and acesa, with the collaboration of the Generalitat de Catalunya. The agreement covers the following projects:

- On the AP-7 southbound, the addition of a third lane will be complemented by improving all the accesses and exits on the Martorell-Vila-seca/Salou section, with the aim of moving over to a closed toll system, which will involve the removal of trunk barriers at the Mediterranean, El Vendrell and Tarragona points

- On the AP-7 northbound, the addition of third and fourth lanes on the  Fornells-Medinyà (Girona bypass) section, with three new junctions to be added to the current Girona South and Girona North ones.

- On the rest of the AP-7 northbound, the addition of a third lane on the Maçanet-La Jonquera section.
