Summary of progress of incidents due to snowfall

February 28th, 2005 Situation as at 1.30 p.m. Traffic on the AP-7

Vilafranca-Martorell. - Over the course of the morning, a number of incidents have occurred due to the intense snowfall. From 11.30 on, the motorway has been open to traffic in both directions.

Southbound. - (k.p. 171 – k.p. 168) Driving conditions became difficult at around 7.15 a.m. Some heavy goods vehicles stopped moving and the first traffic jams, up to 10 km long, commenced. The road was closed until 11.15 a.m., when it was re-opened to traffic.

Northbound. - (k.p. 189 – k.p. 200) Driving conditions became difficult at around 7.30 a.m. with queues reaching 8km in length. The road was closed until 11.30 a.m., when it was re-opened to traffic.

During the whole night –from 01:30 a.m. onwards– a total of eight salting snowploughs have worked in the area, in the face of hail (initially) followed by snowstorms

Diversions

During the hardest-hit hours, the following diversions were made

Vendrell northbound. - (k.p. 221-222) traffic diverted towards the C-32 Barcelona-bound, until opened to traffic (11.30 a.m.).
Martorell. - southbound, diversions were made to the A-2, until traffic was normalised (11.15 a.m.)

Traffic on the AP-2

Traffic on the AP-2 has been normal all morning

Diversion at the confluence of the AP-2 and AP-7. - With the aim of diverting traffic from Lleida to Barcelona on the AP-2, during the worst-hit hours, to the AP-7 southbound, to link with the C-32.
